Toward A Larger Freedom:
Ten Years of Citizen Power Organizing with Together Baton Rouge

Toward A Larger Freedom highlights the vital role everyday citizens play in strengthening democracy. This interdisciplinary project celebrates the 10th anniversary of the nonprofit, nonpartisan, broad-based coalition Together Baton Rouge, which works to mobilize everyday citizens to realize social and economic justice. Project collaborators Phillip Norman, Maggie Connaro, and Abel Thompson collected and transcribed 40+ oral histories from local leaders. Together with over 100 portraits, these firsthand stories comprise an interactive archive of grassroots community organizing in Baton Rouge. This archive will be permanently housed in the East Baton Rouge Parish Library after being exhibited there in early 2022.
